This is not a beginner program. This is the most intense of the 5k programs we offer.

This program includes specifically written resistance training and drills to complement the programmed runs. They are not required, but definitely recommended.

About the Author
Chris Johnson, PT
He graduated from the University of Delaware (UD) as a scholar-athlete and was the captain of the Men’s tennis team during his senior year. He remained at UD to earn his master’s degree before relocating to New York City to accept a position at the world-renowned Nicholas Institute of Sports Medicine & Athletic Trauma (NISMAT).
He currently resides with his wife & two kids in Seattle and the founder/director of Zeren PT LLC, which provides physical therapy and performance coaching for endurance athletes.

What equipment is required for the drills and exercises?
We recommend the following equipment for the strength training component:
- Exercise or yoga mat
- Pair of dumbbells – ideally 10 or 20lbs
- 8” Stepper or platform
- Medium to heavy resistance tubing or monsterband
- Dowel rod or equivalent
